Good morning and welcome to my first posting. I am a mom of two kids (3 years and 8 months). I am getting back into a running routine which I am sure, if you have kids, you know can be difficult. I have just started to find a rhythm in my day. I am heading out for a run around 1pm today with the jogger. I hope to create a community to share stories about running with kids, getting back into running routines, etc.. i will post some good routes in the Portland are for baby joggers and ideas on fitting runs into your schedule.. If you have something to share in this arena or want to vent about fitting your exercise into your schedule this is the place!
I am also starting a running group in the North Portland community next Tuesday at 9:45am at the Interstate New Seasons so join us if you are interested

Hey Robyn - This is fantastic! I will definitely follow this.
ReplyDeleteYeah - my first comment. Can't wait to see you guys this summer!
ReplyDeleteHey Roby- great idea. I actually have a question for you. I have been running lately and today I finally broke the 50 minute mark for a 10km. I finished an outdoor 10 km run in 48min and 4 seconds. Cooper actually stayed ahead of me the whole time too! Just wondering though if you have any tips on how to keep improving - I have sort of plateaued lately. Should I do more hils, intervals? Let me know when you get a chance.
ReplyDeletePS - You can now consider yourself an international blogger as this is your first post from Canada!
Hi Archie:
ReplyDeleteGreetings from up North! My husband is actually Canadian. He is from Ottawa. We go back each summer to spend time at his parents cottage.
Congrats on your 10k time! Breaking the 50 minute barrier is a great accomplishment. You are on the right track with hills/intervals. If you are currently just running straight mileage each day you should vary it to challenge yourself. I suggest the following basic schedule: Monday - Easy mileage day, Tuesday - Tempo run (build to 4-6 miles), Wed - easy mileage, Thursday - longer midweek run, Fri - rest, Sat - long day, Sun - easy mileage. A tempo run is a run which is comfortably hard (shoot for 20 seconds per mile slower than your 10K). Start at a 2 mile tempo with a 1 mile wu and 1 mile cool down and build to 6 mile tempo (add 1/2 mile each week). You could also interchange the tempo day with a good hill run every other week to keep things interesting. Remember not to build your mileage more than 10% per week!
Happy Trails
By the way Archie, tempo and hills are great workouts to do with the running stroller if this is what you are doing. I push Nate up a good hill workout every other week.
ReplyDeleteHey Robyn - I just noticed my nickname is down as Archie - it's actually me Neil! That's funny b/c I had to sign up to AOL in order to post my comment and they asked me to choose a nickname and I chose the one they gave me at work but I never thought it would be posted under the alias of "Archie". Anyways - thanks for the info - that's great, I'll try it. Say hi to my niece and nephew
ReplyDeleteLove ya,
Neil
